Why landscape is important?
<<< home
The eyes are dominant
The eyes are the most dominant of the human senses: 87% of our perception comes from the eyes. For comparison our sense of smell has 3% and both taste and feel 2% each.
Peoples affinity with the landscape
People have a natural affinity with the landscape. They like to live in or be near pleasant scenery. People also have a natural dislike towards altering familiar surroundings. The strength of feeling towards change depends on how prominent the site is in the landscape and also its character and history.
Biodiversity
Good forest landscape planning provides not only a pleasant outward appearance.
It improves:
- biodiversity
- forest soils
- wildlife management
- recreation
Travel
We become accustomed to unsatisfactory elements in our surroundings when we live with them every day, but a first time visitor notices them immediately, like 'stepping into a room for the first time'. When we travel it is this first impression that often makes us decide whether to stop or come back one day again in the future.
